The hot and dry in the summer, cool

The state California is notable for celebrities, consistent sunny weather, lavishly tasting restaurants, overpriced closet apartments, mariijuna and dazzling cities full of charismatic gurus. Additionally, there’s an eminent array of hipster communities that are striving to be different with attempts of transcending new ways to be outgoing. The liveliness of Californians usually comprises of wannabe musicians, actors, artistic exhibitionist, and other infamous people who are dying for their fifteen minutes of fame. However, a lot of people don’t know that California is also known for their Mediterranean shrubland biome. A biome, also known as life zones, consists of all plants, animals, and other organisms, as well the physical environment in an area. A biome is characterized by its plant life, climate, and location.

The climate and physical features determine the boundaries of a biome. A biome is made up of many different ecosystems. The ecosystems tend to have the same plants and animals as neighboring biomes around the boundaries. Today this paper will focus on the Anthropocene. It will refer to a new geological era in which humans are the dominant force driving environmental change. The paper will highlight the biome I chose and will answer questions about my biome. The biome of my choice is the Mediterranean shrubland in California.

The biome is in California and is hot and dry in the summer, cool and moist in the winter. Precipitation is from 200 to 1,000 mm per year. Vegetation includes aromatic herbs (sage, rosemary, thyme, oregano), shrubs, acacia, chamise, grasses. The shrublands are composed of shrubs or short trees. Many shrubs lay on steep, rocky slopes.

Not enough rain comes down to support tall trees. Shrublands are open so grasses and other short plants can flourish between the shrubs. Humans have a huge impact on the environment and do many things that causes biomes to be harmed. Even though there are many environmental issues that humans have an impact on, one sticks out the most. The two that stick out the most are mainly species lost and land loss. Species loss in shrublands typically occurs when humans hunt a species to extinction or near extinction, as happened with the American buffalo, among other species. Removing one species from the food chain in a shrubland has widespread effects, weakening the environmental response of the biome and making it more susceptible to disasters and even failure.

Temperate shrublands often border areas that make good pasture or croplands. As a result, eventually shrublands are turned into commercial property for raising livestock or growing grains and other types of plants. This shrinks the overall size of the shrublands and the room that shrubland species have to expand. These two are great examples as to how humans impact the environment. The human activity I discussed transformed the area’s landscape, soil, environment, ecosystems, flora and fauna. They do so in many ways. First off Image if you will, a world will no trees. If you can’t then image a world filled with smog, unnecessary and undeveloped abandoned buildings like in a metro/futuristic movie, and uncontrollable diseases that are rampant and may have be curable from plants we haven’t researched yet.

By cutting down these trees and plant life we could potentially be cutting down the next medicine that cures a major disease. Biomes are the living spaces of life. They describe communities located across different regions across the world, looking at the interactions between climatic factors, living organisms, and substrates found in the environment. Take time out to learn about what activities are harming the region and biome you live in. You can organize a day where schools across your county and surrounding area have a “biome-awareness day,” looking at all the diversity that surrounds you and understanding how they are interrelated and connected. Be aware of the air and land pollution that exists around you, and maybe start looking for the biodiversity that surrounds you at the park, in your backyard, in school, or even when you’re driving. Life is all around us, and it all exists in a balance: we just must open our eyes to see it. Environmental degradation is the deterioration of the environment through depletion of resources such as air, water and soil; the destruction of ecosystems; habitat destruction; the extinction of wildlife; and pollution.

Some efforts that have been used to decrease this is recycling. Recycling is the best way to stop environmental degradation. It is something that everyone should do on a regular basis in. Recycling is the best way to fight environmental degradation all together. This is the only way to limit environmental degradation in the future.

?In conclusion this paper focused on the Anthropocene. It referred to a new geological era in which humans are the dominant force driving environmental change. Also, the paper highlighted the biome I chose and answered questions about the biome.
