The idea of conflict as a result of its universality and inescapable nature, has gained a large number of implications and meanings, giving us downright semantic meaning, its extensive vacillation leaves numerous researchers’ and construction professionals with questions around (1) its importance and significance; and (2) how best to adapt with it. Therefore, the difficulties in having a concise definition of conflict brought about the theories of conflict which are divided into functional, situational and interactive conflict. A functional definition of conflict define conflict based on the perspective of social functions, the situational definition of conflict see conflict as “an expression of the situation (i.
e outward expression), while the third fundamentalist sees conflict as interactive. To have a clear view of this thought, functionalist define conflict by asking “Why is there the conflict?” if the conflict occurs, for what purpose? A situationalist ask about the circumstances surrounding the emergence of conflict while an internationalist asked on what mechanism are put in place to solve the problem of conflict? A very popular fundamentalist of this thought is George Simmel, a German sociologist. In his effort to define conflict based on the perspectives of a fundamentalist, he defines conflict as to a way of accomplishing some sort of solidarity, regardless of whether it will be through preventing other parties’ interest (Simmel, 1955). Bercovitch (2011) a situationalist defines conflicts as a “circumstance which produces morally sound objectives or qualities among various groups”.
For Bercvitch, conflicts rely upon the circumstance. Folger (1993) an interactionist view conflict as a struggle between individuals who see inconsistent objectives and obstruction from each other in accomplishing these objectives”. Conflicting circumstances are unavoidable and can occur in every sphere of life or even between countries. Like other terms, conflict is a procedure in which one group proposes that its advantages are being restricted by another group. Conflict according to Wall and Callister (1995) occurs when one party disagreement affects the interest of the other party negatively. It also involves having diverse perspectives on a particular cause that can negatively affect the entire cause. Conflict include the correspondence issues which may influence the connection between at least two or more parties and effect on the adequacy of the activity of the project (Shuib et al, 2011).
At that point when conflict happens in a construction project, it will cause the uniqueness of sentiment among parties, uncertainties happen and influence the project task. Generally speaking, individuals see just the recognizable part of conflict such as furious words, activities of restriction, and so on. However, this is just a little piece of the conflict procedure (Mashanne and Glinow, 2008).
