It assumes that underneath the independent and widelydifferent culture as shown in their way of life, there is an underlying basicroot of unity that holds cultural tree together and infuses one clear, distinctsubstance through its veins. This includes their art of living, philosophy inlife, attitudes toward God, nature and fellowmen.

Second is the culturaldualism this theory maintains that the Philippines is a transitional societydominated on one side by the traditional culture and on the other side by themodern culture. The norms and values of these two forces in vitality opposeeach other leading to conflicts in the life of individual. Because of theconflicts brought by, the various foreign in fluencies into the Philippines, the Filipinos have to engage into a selective integration and modification offoreign influences into a distinct Filipino culture. Often including elaboratecostumes, parades and processions, and demonstrating the integration ofhistorical traditions from the indigenous as well as Spanish influences thatcharacterize modern Philippines.
