This popular film, The Avengers, was directed by Joss Whedon an American screenwriter, director, comic book writer, and producer according to both wikipedia and IMDb.com. This team consists of: Chris Evans (Captain America), Robert Downey Jr., (Iron Man), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Mark Ruffalo (The Hulk), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye) and Tom Holland (Spider-Man). Of these seven each has capabilities and superhuman powers of their own. Captain America, Captain America was the first Avenger, hence the film Captain America: The First Avenger. This super-soldier due to his ability of having notably enhanced strength, speed, and stamina greater than any human.

Iron Man Iron Man is just a regular human that goes by the name of Tony Stark. Although I stated that Stark is just a normal human he is a complete genius, he engineered a suit that gives him superhuman powers. The powers that this suit holds are insanely powerful, this suit enables Stark to do things no human could do.

For instance, Stark can fly, lift, and push enormous amounts of weight with little to no struggle. ThorThor has a hammer, Mjolnir, that plays a big part in his superhuman abilities. The capabilities of this hammer are like no other, it has the power to control the weather and on top of this power Thor’s hammer is indestructible. Mjolnir, the hammer, no matter what, will always return to Thor.

The superhuman capabilities of Thor consist of his immunity to human sickness, his strength, as well as his speed. The Hulk The Hulk is a nuclear physicist, and another member of The Avengers. This big green giant is a beast when emotionally influenced he transforms from a normal human being with the regular strength of a man to the giant he is with close to no limits for his physical strength. Black WidowBlack Widow is a special agent of S. H.

I. E. L. D. and an athlete with normal human strength. The Black Widow is under the influence of a Super-Soldier serum allowing her to stay in good physical condition.

The weapon that gives Black Widow part of her character are bracelets that contain line which gives an electric shock when hit or contained by one. HawkeyeHawkeye is a very skilled archer that does not hold any superhuman powers, all of Hawkeyes abilities come from natural talent and training. Spider-ManSpider-Man is very interesting, this superhero has many characteristics of a parasteatoda (spider), hence the name Spider-Man.

This last superhero has the ability to press an extreme amount of weight, his body is like elastic allowing him to bend in all different directions, he has the ability to sense danger, and one of the coolest superpowers he has is his web-shooter and his ability to stick to surfaces. The way this team came together seemed as though it was fate, leading one event and mission to another. It started when Nick Fury called in Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, The Hulk, Black Widow, Hawkeye and a movie or two later, Spider-Man; assembling this group that came to be the Avengers. This team of superheroes was created when Thor’s step-brother, Loki, came in contact and gained access to a crystalline-cube called the “tesseract.” The tesseract contained massive amounts of energy and when it was in the wrong hands could do much damage.

Nick Fury created this “dream team” to defeat the evil hands that were holding this at the time. In the beginning the Avengers completely clash and finally come together after many disagreements and a few fights. The Avengers officially forms after Nick Fury shows them the importance of becoming a team that is undefeatable to fight against all evil.

There have been three films specifically on the Avengers. The second Avengers is, Avengers: Age Of Ultron.Avengers: Age Of Ultron is based on another mission where Tony Stark, Iron Man, calls in the forces of these superheroes to fight against Ultron. Ultron is a villain set on destroying all humans. As this all takes place along the way the Avengers discover two new very powerful superheroes, Pietro and Wanda Maximoff.

At first these two newly discovered superheros were fighting against the Avengers then they decided to join forces against evil. This mission for the Avengers comes to an end with yet another victory. The most recent Avengers film is Avengers: Infinity War, which was one of the toughest battles the Avengers have ever endured. This battle was against Thanos who attempted to collect all six infinity stones which would allow him to take over the world. Not only is marvel here to stay, but it is also rapidly expanding and working its way into many homes and stores.

According to Tim DeForest from Britannica.com, Marvel Comics was founded by Martin Goodman. Marvel Comics had previously started out as Timely Comics with a Marvel series of comic books that were written mainly by Lee. These comic books told stories of the Avenger characters and gave their background. In the 1990’s Timely Comics had gone bankrupt deeming this a upsetting time for many, but not long after the company was resurrected, becoming what now is, Marvel.

When the company came back they amplified their hits expanding to Marvel Studios when the big hit comics were put on screen. Stan Lee, the former editor-in-chief of Marvel was a big part of putting everything into motion. Lee helped get the company to where it is today and as a small token of gratitude from the director of these Marvel movies, Joss Whedon, you can always find Stan Lee making an appearance in the Marvel films. Each of these superheroes have personalities that balance one another out perfectly, Iron Man who is stubborn, rich, and a little rebellious, Captain America who is a little old school, respectful, and often likes to play by rules, Thor with his noble attitude, and each of the others that makes them who they are. The way that Whedon took these individual superheroes keeping their characters personality completely in tact and putting them in one film was game changing for Marvel. In Roger Ebert’s movie review on The Avengers he compares these superheroes to the champions at the Westminster Dog Show.

Eberts states in his article “When I see these six together, I can’t help thinking of the champions at the Westminster Dog Show. You have breeds that seem completely different from one another (Labradors, poodles, boxers, Dalmatians), and yet they’re all champions.” I really like the way Eberts put this, because it is true! Although all of these characters have their difference each and everyone of them have their own capabilities and strong suits that they can use. The mentality of teamwork in this film is astounding. This film was a complete hit not only leading to a box office hit, but also to the sales of marvel memorabilia. The journey of the Avengers is one of courage, strength, leadership, and the special abilities that enable them to fight the supervillains that are constantly trying to wreak havoc and take over the world. While many other films out there have a poor storyline and are sometimes hard to follow, the creators of marvel have made it so that each storyline is fully developed and easy to follow.

The audience for Marvel movies such as the Avengers is vast, it ranges from young kids to adults, and even some of the elderly who have read the original marvel comics. This film is a symbol of films in our era starring such well known actors with a realistic feel and the way that the storylines are so character and plot-driven. In years to come this is a film that will always be remembered and treasured. This superhero film will become a classic just like Gone with the Wind, The Philadelphia Story, Grease, It’s a Wonderful Life, and The Wizard of Oz are deemed to be. The Avengers is a film that greatly represents contemporary Hollywood films.
