The world of technology continues to grow every day. Technology has become a more influential tool in our lives and will continue to be even in the future. In my opinion, nothing on the planet can measure the exponential growth and excitement in the technology industry, an industry which I want to be a part of. My goal is to be part of a team who creates worthwhile, efficient, safe and useful software for consumers. The very first time I used a computer, it intrigued me to know how things were wired up and programmed to make the interfaces appear as they do, the theory behind computers as well as their architecture. From that day, I have loved working around computers. This eventually aroused my interest to study Computer Science, Mathematics and Economics at the university undergraduate level.
Since then, I am keen to further my knowledge in Information Technology. As a high school student, I excelled in courses related to mathematics and science. I was fortunate during this time to have teachers who saw my interest in these subjects and encouraged me to continue widening my understanding and developing my analytical skills as well. So, it was natural for me to choose Computer Science as my university undergraduate course. During my undergraduate studies, I deeply enjoyed learning about software programming, web applications, and technologies as well as computer systems. And with my mathematics background, I performed very well in my course.
In addition to my specialized knowledge of computer science, which I gained from my undergraduate studies, I got the opportunity to be an intern at Soronko Solutions, a software development company. After my undergraduate studies, I joined Evolve Dot Com, a web hosting company, as a web designer and an IT Officer. At Evolve Dot Com, I am responsible for installing and configuring computer systems and applications, monitoring and maintaining computer systems and networks as well as troubleshooting computer system and network problems and diagnosing and resolving the faults. I also provided support to customers by taking them through a series of actions, either over the telephone or face-to-face, to help resolve issues. I am also responsible for setting up new users’ accounts and profiles as well as email accounts and deal with password issues, responding to call-outs within agreed time limits.
I also design, monitor and maintain customers’ and the company’s website. My academic, as well as my professional experience, has provided me with a lot of practical knowledge and skills that will be immensely useful when studying MSc in Information Technology at your institution. I appreciate the breadth of this field and this is why I want to acquire the proper academic, as well professional, grounding required for any IT related job.
I have also been very active outside of work, participating in extracurricular activities and pursuing new experiences so as to push myself and broaden my horizons. I often attend Christian and non-Christian leadership seminars and conferences where I mingled and shared experiences with people who have high social and educational standard. I am comfortable adapting to new situations and interacting with people from different cultures. Furthermore, I act as the organizer of my church which has about 100 people. I also manage the children department of the church. Aside the enhanced communication and leadership skills these experiences offered me, what I most value is my newfound understanding is the importance of service and patience. Regarding my career plan for the future, I plan to take what I learn from this university course and build a long-term career in the IT Industry with opportunities for future growth in my native country, Ghana.
Ghana is rapidly growing and shows great potential, yet compared to other more advanced countries, it is still in its relative infancy in the computing world. By studying this course, I will gain the expertise, the perspective, and the experience necessary to lead my country to a new era in technology. I also have many friends with similar goals, and I hope that we can one day collaborate to work hard toward making Ghana one of the innovative force in the computing world. Finally, considering my experiences in the field, I want to delve deeper into all subject areas regarding Information Technology in order to gain proper academic and professional grounding required in my pursuit of a career in the IT industry.
By enrolling in your MSc in Information Technology course, I am sure to gain such grounding.
