Synopsis: India. She has brown eyes, long black

Synopsis: The story is about an 18-year-old orphan from the slums of Mumbai, called Jamal Malik. What he doesn’t know is that he is about to experience an abrupt change in his life. Suddenly he finds himself on India’s version of “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?”, and he is only one question away from winning 20 million rupees. But when the show breaks for the night, he is accused of cheating by the police. Desperate to prove his innocence, Jamal tells the story of his life in the slum where he and his brother grew up, of their adventures together on the road, of brutal encounters with local gangs, and of Latika, the girl he loved and lost. Each chapter of his story reveals the key to the answer to one of the game show’s questions.
Main Characters: The movie consists of three main characters named Jamal, Salim and Latika.
Jamal is an 18-year-old Indian boy, from Mumbai. He looks like a typical Indian boy, with black hair, darker skin and brown eyes. In addition to this he is tall and slim. When it comes to Jamal’s personality he is introduced as sensible, well-mannered, shy and in general a very nice boy. Unlike his big brother, Salim who is the straight opposite.
Salim is selfish and has never been afraid to hurt others. He can therefore be related to as the typical “bad guy” or “bully” in the movie. His physical appearance on the other hand is typical Indian like Jamal, but with curlier hair.
The last main character in this movie is named Latika. She is around the same age as Jamal, and is like the other characters from Mumbai, India. She has brown eyes, long black hair, darker skin and a slim figure. She comes off as a sweet-hearted person, who is very smart as well. In the movie she is kind of torn between Salim and Jamal’s arguing, and ends up in the middle.
Themes: The first main theme is poverty and low-class people in India. In the movie you can see that Salim and Jamal lives in the slums of Mumbai.
And a second main theme is underdog it was shown thoroughly in the movie. When Jamal entered “Who want to be a Millionaire?” he was taken as a joke by the host and the crowd. They thought he wasn’t smart because he worked as tea server for telemarketing building. Jamal proved them wrong when he answered every question correctly with events that happened sometimes in his life
Effects: One of the effects they used a lot in the movie is flashbacks. The whole movie contains flashbacks from the main characters childhood. For example, every time Jamal is asked a question, we get to see flashbacks from when he was younger. Sound effects are also used several times during the film. Gunshots and heartbeats are an example, this increases the intensity of the movie making it more exciting to watch.
Music plays a significant role as well, as this also effects the tension. For example, when they were trying to catch the train the speed of the music increased.
Rate the actor: I think that all the actors did a wonderful job portraying their characters. They all made the movie feel real, since they played passionate and followed their role throughout the whole film.
Conclusion: I think this movie sends a lot of good messages. It shows that experience is a fantastic way to learn, because we experience a lot of challenges and obstacles in a life time. We can see this in the film, when Jamal answers the questions. Without his life experience he wouldn’t been able to answer them.
My opinion: I really enjoyed watching it and it’s a movie that I have already watched several times. This is because I think the concept and the story of the movie is great. In addition to this I liked seeing the culture in India, and how the differences between rich and poor affected the people. All together I think this is one of my favorite movies.
