Maya Angelou was an American writer

Maya Angelou was an American writer, poet, educator, memoirist and civil rights activist. She was the writer of seven autobiographies, five books of essays, several collections of poems. Her name appears among the authors of the whole series of plays, movies and television shows that have been published for over fifty years. She got so many awards and more than thirty honorary doctorates. Her book “I know why the caged bird sings” brought her worldwide fame.
Most of the writers have their specific time or ritual for writing like listening to music or bathing and Of course she also had a writing ritual. She preferred to write in the ascetic setting. Before starting working on a book she always rented a room in a hotel and asked to remove everything like flowers, pictures, magazines or anything that can distract her. She needed an impersonal, unchanged and closed space so that she can complete feeling cut off from the outer world. In that hotel room, she keeps the only bed, dictionary, bible, a bottle of sherry and a deck of cards. She even doesn’t allow housekeepers to change the bed sheets. She always used to wake up at 5.30 in the morning. Around 6 a.m. she reaches the hotel. She locks herself there and starts working. No one was allowed to disturb her. She stays there till 12.30 p.m. or 1.30 p.m. then she went home and read what she wrote. After that, she takes shower and prepares dinner. But if everything is going well then she stays for long, as long as everything goes well. She never discussed or shares her work with anyone except her editor.
So, to achieve anything you have to be determined and focus. To do any work, don’t wait for the inspiration. You have to stick to the goals like her and have to work hard to get what you want. There would be lots of distractions on the way but you should be strong and completely determined.
Maya Angelou’s Words of Wisdom
“One isn’t necessarily born with courage, but one is born with potential. Without courage, we cannot practice any other virtue with consistency. We can’t be kind, true, merciful, generous, or honest.”
“Success is liking yourself, liking what you do, and liking how you do it.”
“The first time someone shows you who they are, believe them.”
She had gone through very difficulties but she was a strong woman. She had beautiful views about life-
“Try to be a rainbow in someone’s cloud.”
“Surviving is important; thriving is elegant.”
If I am not good to myself, how can I expect anyone else to be good to me?
