Leadership TheoryNameInstitutionInstructorCourseDate Leadership TheoryApplication of the Transformational Theory Leader-Member Theory (LMX) To Improve an Organization’s PerformanceTransformational theory leader-member theory (LMX) is a leadership theory, which is based on the relationship between leaders and other staff members, which will enable better communication between them and will positively influence the member’s performance (Northouse, 2013). This relationship also enhances trust and respect in the organization, which may improve the organizational effectiveness (Northouse, 2013). Organizations that have implemented this type of leadership have an advantage of replacing leaders after they have left an organization as a new leader can be selected from the other staff members to lead the other group members (Northouse, 2013). The transformational theory leader-member theory can be applied in Kaiser Permanente Hospital to transform the leadership in the organization, which will positively impact the organizational effectiveness (Northouse, 2013). This theory can be applied by the management assessing the strengths and weaknesses of the members of the organization and providing them with the suitable opportunities to enhance their skills and perform more roles and responsibilities in the organization, which will lead to a more effective organization (Northouse, 2013). Providing the members with opportunities to improve their skills is a learning process, which is important for all staff members in performing their duties effectively (Northouse, 2013).
The transformational theory leader-member theory can also be applied in Kaiser Permanente Hospital by implementing a good communication process, which will allow and improve communication between the leaders and the staff members (Northouse, 2013). Good communication in an organization improves trust in the organization and sharing of ideas, which are important in the decision-making process (Northouse, 2013). This can be achieved by having programs, which allow the staff members to participate in meetings with the management of the hospital, which will help in better distribution of roles, and responsibilities with those better placed given more consideration (Northouse, 2013). Trust will also lead to more respect for team members and the management. The management should also support members holding leadership positions with more responsibilities, which will help members, develop a good attitude to job responsibilities (Northouse, 2013).
