For me to teach students effectively and to the relevant content, I have to acquaint myself with the Victorian Curriculum and other resources applicable to their education.
I will also learn thorough knowledge of each subject and their content which will allow me to grasp an understanding of how my students learn concepts, skills, and contents. This will allow me to gain knowledge and support particular students to learn successfully. I will teach the students thoroughly by using step by step examples through the learning process with clear visualisation of the new skill that they will be learning along with clear demonstrations and explanations that will be supported by feedback until the students have mastered to do the skills alone. When working with students individually, in a group or in a whole class I will add into my lesson plan to demonstrate a broad knowledge about the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, languages and cultures where students will understand and respect their culture. I have done this during my placement in a maths session with students who did not quite understand the skills on how to get the answer. By using clear instructions and demonstrations I was able to teach the students how to figure out maths problems and used step by step explanation to guide them. As stated by Vygotsky, The More Knowledgeable Other has a better understanding. As a preservice teacher, I relate to that as I was the More Knowledgeable Other teaching students in the maths session about the subject and was able to help them out.
I also observed that the teacher designed different instruction activity sheets for each group of students that was related to the curriculum, I also followed this in the classroom by assisting the students in groups on how to follow the instructions and what needs to be done. After the students had done what they were told, I corrected their books and gave as many feedbacks both negative and positive for students to do better next time.During reading time I asked students to refer back to Thrass chart and I used Bloom’s Taxonomy questions (1956) that were very handy to me when working in the classroom as I found that when questioning or asking students about their opinions with the subject and topic focus they were doing it helped me build a stronger understanding of the students’ profiles.The school I did my placement at, they had reading blocks during school time where I would hover around students who I thought needed extra assistance and listened to them read the book following discussion questions after they finished. I found that this improved the students thinking. I believe that I need to learn strategies in literacy by going on the school policies and having a look at what is expected as well as the curriculum.
I will need to improve on numeracy and gain a better understanding and knowledge on how I can teach numeracy to students.As a future teacher, it is important for me to create activities and opportunities for my students to contribute to technology and use ICT in the classroom. ICT plays a big role for students as they become more engaged. I will use ICT in the classroom for educational purposes and link it back with the Victorian Curriculum. Showing videos to students about the topic they are learning will be a great assessment strategy where students will watch and learn about the topic. I contributed by helping students familiarising themselves when using technology and assisted them by teaching them how to go on websites and type in the correct URL to go to the page they were looking for.AITSL STANDARD 3: PLAN FOR AND IMPLEMENT EFFECTIVE TEACHING AND LEARNING(e.g.

For example, differentiation and scaffolding. When planning lessons, I need to put into place different types of teaching strategies that will challenge students with their learning. To identify and monitor students’ strengths and weaknesses, I will need to construct a test for the subject I would want to identify where they are at. Doing this will help me be cautious of which students are in the low level who need extra assistance. I will include many assessment strategies for the students who are on the lower level to help them improve.
I will need to reflect on the ways I can improve my lessons and create a more interesting and in-depth teaching and learning. I will achieve this by using ICT in my teaching and assessment strategies as well as students showing a demonstration of their strengths, weaknesses, and knowledge that they have learned.I will do this by implementing ICT in my classroom lesson that will include videos, PowerPoints, programs that will educate students in their learning.
They will also use their prior knowledge to connect to real-world examples when in small groups or in classroom discussions. Different cues I can use to also manage the classroom will be expecting students to raise their hand when asking or answering questions and standing silently in line. In Piaget’s theory (constructivist) (Sigelman & Rider, 2009) is crucial when planning and implementing effective teaching and learning because it centers on the student and how that student will acquire knowledge. As a teacher to identify and monitor students’ strengths and weaknesses. Doing this will help me be cautious of which students are in the low level and need extra assistance. In my classroom, I observed that there were learning intentions and goals that were provided for students to achieve. I observed that doing this helped students know how and what they are going to learn.
Even though there were teacher guidance and assistance each student processed information differently. I noticed that the classroom teacher challenged and engaged students with their learning. With the right assistance, students felt that they were on the right page.
They were determined to complete the set-out work that was given to them and once completed, they felt that they were successful in what they completed. As a preservice teacher, I learned that planning and practice is the main focus for preparation of becoming a teacher. Exploiting different type of planning models will ensure that the learning and teaching are considered. Using the WALT model will encourage and engage students in their learning as they will have an idea of what they are going to learn.

I will use a wide range of teaching strategies to use in my teaching that will educate, motivate and engage all students. Including the parents/careers in the educative process, I will hand out letters to the students to hand over to their parents that will include different ways to educate their children and what fun activates they can be engaged in whilst at home. This strategy will help students to revise what they have learned in the classroom at home to support their learning. Asking parents to quiz their children on literacy and numeracy can boost up the students learning as they will have knowledge when they learn them at school. I will also attend parent-teacher interviews and have conversations with parents regarding the great work their child does in the classroom.
