churches have pastors, schools have teacher and principles, and families have mommy’s
and daddy’s, even yourself, leadership can be found anywhere! Leaders are people who
commands or lead a group of people, organization, or country. Leadership is
both a research area and a practical skill incorporating the ability of an individual
or organization to lead or guide other characters, teams, or entire
organizations. Most people in leadership, creates an inspiring vision of the future to
achieve its full potential. Motivates,
encourage and inspires people to engage with that vision they have and make it
happen. Most
leaders accomplish
the delivery of the idea. Coaches,
monitor and builds a team, so that it is more effective at achieving the
vision. Leaders help themselves and others to do the right things. They set focus,
build an motivating idea, and create something rather new. Leadership is about
mapping out where you need to go to be successful and win as a team or an
organization; and it is dynamic, exciting, and very


Some soft skills installed in great leaders of today are good communication,
motivational, delegating, positive, trustworthy creative, great feedback,
responsible, committed and flexible.

Leaders need to encourage their staffs to go the further mile for their institute.
Leaders who try to take on too countless of tasks by themselves will fid it
difficult to get anything done. A positive attitude can go an extensive way in
an office or environment. Personnel need to be able to feel welcoming coming to
their manager or leader with questions and concerns. As a leader, you have to
make a number of decisions that do not have a clear answer; you henceforth need
to be able to think outside of the box. Leaders should frequently look for
opportunities to deliver useful information to team members about their
performance. A leader is responsible to aim at both the successes and failures
of his or her team. It is important for leaders to follow through with what
they agree to do. Mishaps and last-minute changes always occur at work.

The purpose of this paper is to explore the importance of
leadership within organizations. To also examine behavioral leadership theories
in order to discuss the benefit it might have in my organization.

             The purpose leadership serve is to be
able to guide one or more person to achieving a goal. Imagine there is no one
in the office to direct employees how to work or get things done without any
direction; workers will work without properly completing the task correctly. A
leader is definitely needed, especially in places like a work force. Leadership refers to the
ability of a person to influence others towards a particular objective.
Leadership style of each individual is different depending on how the person
learns, or how he or she wore raised or was thought. Being a good learned means
you will be able to reach short term and long-term goals. Great leaders set performance targets.
They demand cooperative interaction, validate effort, celebrate accomplishments
and team work. They listen and learn, refine policies and procedures to make
employees’ jobs easier. They hold themselves and all others accountable for
performance and values expectations. “Effective leaders serve their primary customers, which are their team
members. Their secondary customers are those who purchase the team’s or
company’s products and services. They inspire aligned contributions by all team members in a trusting,
respectful work environment”(The Purpose of Leadership, 2018).




Leaders have an important role to play in shaping the culture and
direction of the organizations they lead. The sense of purpose and mission that
connects to something larger than themselves and contributes to the flourishing
others. The leader should personally
have a sense of purpose guiding their life. He or she should also see a greater
sense of purpose in the work organizationally.
“Understanding purpose at both the personal and organizational levels is vital
for leaders and followers alike. Understanding your purpose as a leader is not
simply about personal fulfillment” (Irving,J, 2018) Understanding your purpose
and how this relates to the organization you serve shapes the lives of others.
Leader purpose helps followers to be more satisfied in their work, have a
better sense of their fit in the organization, and have increased
commitment to their work and to their organization.


Leadership is an integral part of an organization because without
leadership the organization will completely fall apart. Leadership is an important
factor for making an organization successful. It is the art or process of influencing
people to perform assigned tasks willingly, efficiently and competently.
Without leadership a line manager simply cannot be effective. Leadership of the
line managers transforms potential into reality. When good leadership is in
place in the organization, it can be felt throughout the entire organization.
With good leadership, organizational culture is not forced but developed.
Communication is effective and open. Everyone understands the vision and goals
of the organization, and everyone has input into how they can be improved.
People feel that they are an important part of the organization and they give
their best for the success of the organization.


The leadership in the organization is to meet the three challenges. The
first challenge is to provide a shared vision of where the organization is
heading and what its purpose is (the mission). The second challenge is to set
objectives, that is, to convert the strategic vision and directional course
into specific performance outcomes for each key area which leaders deem
important for success. The third challenge in providing strategic
direction is to generate and develop a strategy that will determine how to
achieve the objectives. Strategic direction is imperative in identifying a
systematic intervention that will provide the most leverage to the organization,
as an organization cannot focus on everything all of the time.



            The leadership theories are trait,
behavioral, contingency and transformational leadership. The theory that I
found most compelling to me is behavioral theory. The behavioral theories
identify key leader behavior believed to affect leadership effectiveness. Out
of all theory’s this theory can be systematically improved and developed. The
four parts of behavioral are task-oriented leader, relationship- oriented, contingency,
and transformational leadership. Task oriented relationships deals with helping
the goals of the work unit. For example, planning, clarifying, monitoring, and
problem solving. Initiating structure and transaction leadership both falls
under task-oriented leader behavior. Initiating Structure plans and defines
what group members should be doing for the best results. Transactional
leadership clarifies employee’s role and task and provides followers with
positive and negative feedback.




Relationship-orientated leader behavior enhances employee’s skills and
creates positive work relationship among coworkers and leader and his or her
employees. The four relationship oriented behaviors are consideration,
empowerment, servant-leadership, and ethical leadership. Consideration behavior
creates mutual respect or trusts and makes group members need and desire of
focus. The leaders ability to create perception of physiological empowerment is
empowering leadership. Servant leadership focuses on increased service to
others rather than to one self. Ethical leadership represents appropriate
behavior that focus on being a role model to others.


Contingency theory states the propose that the effectiveness of a
particular style of leader behavior depends on the situation. In Fiedler
contingency model, he developed the least preferred coworker scale to measure
the extent to which an individual takes a task or relationship based approach
towards leadership. The three dimensional of situational control are
leader-member relations, task structure, and position power. Leader- member relation
describes the extent to which the leader has the support, loyalty, and trust of
the work group. Task structure measurements the amount of structure contained
within tasks per formed by the work group. Position power is the leaders formal
power to reward, punish, or otherwise obtain compliance from employees.


            Lastly transformational leadership uses
a combination of charisma, interpersonal skills and leader behaviors to
transform follower’s goals, motives, and behaviors. The four key behaviors they
adopt are inspirational motivation, idealized influence, individualized
consideration, and intellectual stimulation. Inspirational motivation includes
the use of charisma, relies on an attractive vision of the future, emotional
arguments, and demonstrated optima and enthusiasm. Idealized influence is to
instill pride, respect, and trust within employees. Intellectual stimulation
behavior encourages employees to question the status quo and to seek innovation
and creative solutions to organizational problems.


            The components that I
chose from my theory would help benefit organizations in general is following
the behavioral theory. This theory pretty much covers how to probably run a
business though good leadership in general. The behavioral theory leads to
higher performance by the team members and even the boss, it improves
motivation and morale within the members, and helps to respond to change. For
example, the video we watched last class about the company Zappos just all
around wowed me. The workers loved there job to the point if the were offered
thousands of dollars, the will still not leave. Of course Zappos is not a
company for everyone, but those who are currently working there love the
atmosphere and organization leadership it has there. Leadership style can vary
according to the culture of an organization. “As we grow
as a company, it has become more and more important to explicitly define the
core values from which we develop our culture, our brand, and our business
strategies. These are the ten core values that we live by, deliver WOW Through
Service, embrace and drive change, create fun
and a little weirdness, be adventurous, creative, and open-minded, pursue
growth and learning, build open and honest relationships with communication, build a
positive team and family spirit, do More With Less, be
passionate and determined, be Humble” (About Zappos culture,2018).






In conclusion the purpose of leadership is to set high standards for
performance and values, validate efforts and contributions, and ensure
cooperative interaction and performance in a trusting, respectful work
environment. A leader is an innovator and creator whereas a manager is a
commander. A leader
can’t be a manager but the opposite is possible, a manager is more than a
leader. A leader
does what is right, while the manager makes things right. A leader
deals with change whereas a manager plans for a change. A leader
gives direction to do something whereas the manager plans for everything that
is to be done.
leader encourages people whereas the manager controls people. A leader
handles communication, credibility, and empowerment whereas a manager deals
with organizing and staffing.
