As someone who has spent most of her life so far as a student, I can vouch for the importance of school. While school years are often met with groans and complaints by students, it is still our duty as citizens to attend school until at least the age of sixteen. Many students beg their parents to allow them to stay home or even fake cough like their throat was filled with crushed ice, but still go to school because whether or not they enjoy it, deep down they know the importance of it.

School serves a number of purposes but essentially tries to get students for “the real world”. From the first years you attend, school helps guide young kids through the establishment of a daily routine, which is of utmost importance as they grow to work toward the workplace, and as they become productive members of society. School provides us with access to new ideas, including science and language, and are given the opportunity to learn more about world cultures, as well as an exposure to diversity in culture and religion, geography, and lastly history.

People debate over the subject of whether education is the only thing that gives knowledge and repeatedly ask the question “Is education important to society?”. Some say education is the process of gaining information about the surrounding world. They are correct.

As Malala Yousafzai said, “In some parts of the world, students are going to school every day. It’s their normal life. But in other parts of the world, we are starving for education…it’s like a precious gift. It’s like a diamond.

“, and I believe this is how we all should treat it. School teaches an innumerable amount of things to students of which some include: day to day morals and manners, confidence and to face your fears, socialization, teamwork, success and failure, organization, honesty towards yourself and others, respect, and most importantly to strive you achieve your aspirations because if you set your mind to something, it can be done! Personally, at the beginning of my educational journey I was not confident very confident. I was shy, did not enjoy raising my hand and especially got really nervous once teachers would call upon me to answer a question up until about grade ten. At this point, I started to join more clubs and socialize much more of which was all out of my comfort zone. But, doing so has really helped me to be a more outgoing person as I know I need to be once I get into university, as well as when I will be in the workplace. Furthermore, I have learned to be leader, and the importance of teamwork.

I truly enjoy being the person that everyone in a group looks up to for advice if they are unsure of something, and also as a role model. I had many successes and some failures of which I have learned from, over the past 11 years of education that I have experienced through so far. Moreover, from a young age I promised myself to always stay true to myself, as well as be honest towards others; which has really helped me decide what I may want to pursue in the future. The main thing I have learned so far from school and from the teachers there over the years, is to always be the best version of myself that I can be, to strive for my best and to treat others the way I want to be treated which are all such important life lessons. The definition of the verb “to school” is: To train or discipline; to educate in or as if in an institution of learning, life is like a school; not one day goes by that I don’t learn something new. The years as children, teenagers, and following young adults that we spend in a classroom are only part of the learning journey we live through for the rest of our lives. Learning is defined as: the act or process of acquiring knowledge or skill. That being said, I believe learning first begins the first time we take a breath as a newborn baby.

From the first day in this life to the last we are learning. Even after you are complete with formal schooling, the learning process never comes to an end. Being in school is an essential factor to any human being who desires to do basically anything in their lifetime. Friendships are another example of something learned through school. A school environment offers students the opportunity to learn to work with others, which is a very important “real world” skill. Through games and projects, and even participation in after-school sports, children can learn the importance of forging relationships with each other.

These activities can also help us learn to manage difficult personalities, find our way as leaders, and improve our understanding of the way we work as individuals. These lessons provide us with valuable experiences that as adults we will use everyday. Working with others is all about managing different personalities and finding ways to make your workday run more smoothly.Overall, school is a place where students attend partially because the government or their parents force them to, but really benefits them in the long run and as these students get older they start to understand the crucial importance and impact of education.

School teaches a person lessons they will need to know for their future which they may not have learned if they they weren’t forced to attend school. In school you learn some concepts that you will never need to know again in your future but those concepts force you to expand your thinking, get you out of your comfort zone and you possibly will discover a passion for something you enjoy that you never knew of previously. Albert Einstein once said, “Once you stop learning, you start dying.” which is a quote I personally agree with and truly support.
