As increase in the overall temperature of the

As absurd as it sounds, there are still people who believe that global warming is a hoax. According to pewglobal.com, thirty-one percent of Americans think do not believe that global warming is an issue. Global warming is the gradual increase in the overall temperature of the earth’s atmosphere, generally attributed to the greenhouse effect caused by increased levels of carbon dioxide, chlorofluorocarbons, and other pollutants.

Global warming is an increasing issue that needs to be addressed. The scientific community agrees that climate change does, in fact, exist, but the question remains: is global warming a crisis, or not? Need in text citation Carbon dioxide levels have been dated back millions of years by examining the air bubbles trapped in ice. During the ice ages, carbon dioxide levels were reported at two hundred parts-per-million (ppm), and during the interglacial periods they were around 280 parts-per-million (ppm).

These levels have been on the rise and by 2013, levels exceeded 400 parts-per-million (ppm). When these emissions enter the atmosphere, about sixty percent of them stay in the air. All of this was an effect of fossil fuels emissions. There are numerous causes of global warming and the effects that it has on the earth. However, most of these effects are a result of fossil fuels being emitted into the atmosphere. Fossil fuel buildup in the atmosphere is common from coal burning factories and fracking. When cars are driven, carbon dioxide is emitted into the atmosphere where it collects and creates smog and heats the earth.

Another main element in climate change comes from pollution from factories. Many factories in bigger cities produce lots of emissions that are released to the environment and into the atmosphere. Chlorofluorocarbons are prominent in many products from several different industries, but it is now regulated. In the past, these chemicals have depleted the ozone layer, which allowed sunlight through and caused warmer temperatures. According to ecowatch.com, factory farming is a major contributing factor, if not the main cause, of man-made global warming. Forests are leveled to create space for the massive slaughter houses.

A quote from the article reads, “fossil fuel consumption and emissions of the entire industrial food and farming cycle, including inputs, equipment, production, processing, distribution, heating, cooling, and waste contribute to climate change” (). Factory farming accounts for thirty-seven percent of methane (CH4) emissions, which has more than twenty times the global warming potential of carbon dioxide (CO2). When manure is repeatedly applied to farmland, it causes dangerous levels of phosphorus and nitrogen in the water supply. In such excessive amounts, nitrogen deprives water of oxygen and destroys aquatic life. The easiest way to see and understand that global warming exists is to simply look at the thermometer. Over the past century, the temperature has increased more than one degree fahrenheit.

Nine of the ten hottest years recorded have occurred since 2000. The temperature rise has caused the ice to melt. Arctic sea ice is melting at an alarming rate; about thirteen percent of sea ice is disappearing per decade due to extreme temperature change.

The melting of the ice affects plants and animals of that ecosystem drastically, because their ecosystems are beginning to vanish, and over time, and the plants and animals of that ecosystem will die out.In the last century, sea level has risen eight inches globally. The main cause of sea level rise is glaciers and ice sheets melting in the Arctic. When the temperatures exceeds thirty-two degrees fahrenheit, the ice begins to melt into the ocean. This means that coastal cities may become submerged in the near future and can disturb ecosystems greatly.

The first mammal species has become extinct due to global warming. The Bramble Cay melomys, a small rodent, lived on a secluded island off of the coast of Australia; the species was last reported seen in 2009. Numerous efforts by scientists to try and locate these rodents have failed. The cause of their extinction was sea level rise. Ninety-seven percent of the rodents’ habitat had been lost on the island and, with no habitat, the melomys were no longer able to survive. Clearly, the drastic temperature changes have already managed to threaten an entire species, so if the temperature continues to rise, it will threaten other habitats as well. Honeybees are one of the many organisms, and perhaps one of the most important organisms, that are affected by climate change.

Climate change causes spring to come earlier and for temperatures to get warmer than they ever have before. In the higher altitudes, when the snow melts earlier and the flowers start to bloom, there are no bees to pollinate them. Rebecca Irwin, a professor at Dartmouth College, conducted an experiment; Irwin and her team shoveled snow away from the ground and allowed the flowers to bloom early.

They waited for the flowers to grow and then looked for the honeybees. The study proved that there were very few bees around to pollinate the plants. Lack of pollination greatly affects the ecosystem, and if honey bees, our most important pollinators, continue to vanish, then the earth will be harmed greatly. Some critics believe that animals will be able to move to a new environment that fits their temperament; this is true, but only to an extent. The animals will start to run out of available habitat that fits their needs.

There are many reports of mass extinctions of animals where they could not adapt to the new climate. For example, in previous years, animals would be able to migrate to the environment that they need. This is no longer possible for most animals, because most places that would typically be habitable for them are much too hot now. The continuous rise of earth’s climate makes people more prone to tropical diseases, and these diseases will become more widespread if global warming continues. This could cause the next major outbreak of a deadly disease such as smallpox or yellow fever. How? If the earth continues to experience drastic temperature changes, animals and plants alike will be greatly affected.

“Global warming is making hot days hotter, rainfall and flooding heavier, hurricanes stronger and droughts more severe. This intensification of weather and climate extremes will be the most visible impact of global warming in our everyday lives. It is also causing dangerous changes to the landscape of our world, adding stress to wildlife species and their habitat. It may not seem like it will affect humans but it will. Even just one animal or plant can cause a chain reaction that trickles up to humans.

According to climatehotmap.org sunlight, warm air, and pollution from power plants and cars burning coal and gasoline—combine to produce ground-level ozone (smog), which humans experience as poor air quality. Higher air temperatures increase smog, if sunlight, fossil fuel pollution, and air currents remain the same.

Not sure this fits here Evidently, the temperature changes affect all different kinds of ecosystems, habitats, plants, animals, and even people in various ways. Some believe that the earth goes through phases where it is either warmer than usual or cooler than usual. It is true that the earth undergoes temperature change where it is either getting warmer or cooler, but global warming is entirely different from these minor temperature changes. For example, there was an ice age on earth.

However, this occurrence is much different from global warming. The carbon dioxide levels are one of the most alarming factors. It had been shifting normally for thousands of years, but the huge spike of carbon dioxide levels, which occurred in the 1950s, reveals that something is wrong. Move? Many people claim that they do not care what will happen to the earth because they will be dead when the earth is greatly affected, however, this a major misconception. There are already so many negative residual effects on the earth, and it is important that people preserve the earth for themselves and future generations. Our own president does not take global warming seriously. Donald Trump has called global warming a hoax numerous times. His most famous tweet about global warming was in 2012 when he tweeted: “The concept of global warming was created by and for the Chinese in order to make U.

S. manufacturing non-competitive.” Cite? On January 24th, 2014, Trump tweeted: “Snowing in Texas and Louisiana, record setting freezing temperatures throughout the country and beyond. Global warming is an expensive hoax!” Our president needs to address the problem of global warming to be able to make change. Without Trump’s help, the United States may fall behind other countries with our regulations and laws regarding climate change.

The United States is regarded by some as the most powerful nation on earth, which means that other nations would follow in our footsteps and listen to our laws and regulations regarding climate change. The United States should more closely pay attention to European countries, especially France and Sweden, due to their commitment to combating global warming. On June 1st, 2017, Donald Trump announced that the United States would withdraw from the Paris Agreement, which is an agreement to help with carbon emissions. The United States now only joins two other countries who are not a part of the agreement.

The United States is taking footsteps in the wrong direction, meanwhile, other countries are moving forward with their efforts to combat global warming. We as a people must take drastic measures to help prevent further damage to our earth. Specifically, larger countries need to make bigger efforts because these are typically the worst polluters of the world. China, the most populous country on earth, has the largest pollution levels of any country.

An industrial city in China, named Xingtai, has a daily average pollution level of 155.2 micrograms per cubic meter of PM 2.5.

This number is over eight times bigger than the most polluted city in the United States. There are very alarming statistics that need to be addressed. In 2017, Chinese agencies had already been fined 1.

2 billion yuan in the first ten months for violating environmental regulations. China needs to be held accountable for their actions and must do more than pay a fine. If the factories continue to break the laws in place, then they should be shut down. New laws need to be introduced, which all prevent further damage to the environment. One can easily use less electricity.

These measures are as simple as turning off the lights when one leaves a room or power off the TV when one is not watching. Another way to decrease global warming is to drive more fuel efficient cars and ride a bike or walk when able to. The way in which we can make these methods work is by implementing laws and regulations. Fines can be an effective tactic by the government to help reduce fossil fuel emission. Carpooling is a great way to help conserve carbon dioxide emissions. Humans can plant trees because they give us oxygen to breathe and they absorb carbon dioxide.

The government can reward those who plant trees. Recycling is as simple as reusing a water bottle or using a container more than once. By recycling, trash does not end up in landfills and pollute the earth. It is important to abide by the laws and regulations, especially for businessmen. The laws should be implemented to help conserve the earth, such as limiting air pollution being introduced to the atmosphere from factories. Factories need to have stricter rules about the pollutants they send out into the atmosphere and into the water stream.
