Archduke House of Hapsburg, who were the rulers

Archduke Ferdinand was born in Graz, Austria. He was born on December 18, 1863. He was a member of the House of Hapsburg, who were the rulers of the Holy Roman Empire, the Austro-Hungarian Empire and the Spanish Empire. At the age of 12, Ferdinand began his military career in which he was quickly promoted to a major general at the age of 31. He was groomed to inherit the throne after the suicide of the emperor’s son named Crown Prince Rudolf and the death of his father. Ferdinand fell in love with Countess Sophie Chotek. When it came to marriage he was denied to marry her until Archduke Joseph agreed on the condition that no descendants of Ferdinand and his wife succeed to throne. They got married on July 1, 1900. On June 28, 1914, Ferdinand and his wife were on their way to a reception they were invited to in Bosnia, Sarajevo, when their driver accidentally took a wrong turn in which a 19-year-old named Gavrilo Princip was waiting for them. The 19-year-old then fired his gun which striked Sophie in the abdomen and Ferdinand in the neck. Both of them died on their way to the hospital.
