African regions, efforts to achieve food security are often based on major food crops (sorghum, millet, maize, rice, yams, cassava, groundnut, cow- pea, etc.
). Grain legumes are recognised as a main source of dietary protein and energy mainly in the developing countries where cost of animal protein is expensive and difficult to afford (Chickwendu 2007). Many grain legume species are neglected and underutilized while they play a crucial role in the food security, nutrition, and income generation of the rural area (Magbagbeola et al. 2010). Macroty- loma geocarpum (Harms) Mare´chal et Baudet or Kersting’s groundnut is a grain legume indigenous originated from West Africa, especially Nigeria, Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger, Togo and Benin (Obasi and Agbatse 2003) where it is widely consumed.
