A young boy named Tom Sawyer lives along with his Aunt Polly and his half-brother, Sid, in St. Petersburg, Missouri.
when skipping school one day and dirtying his clothes during a fight, Tom must whitewash the fence as punishment the next day. Tom convinces his friends to offer him stuff for the prospect to do his work.Tom falls in love with Becky Thatcher, a new girl in town, and persuades her toget “engaged” to him. They later break up because Tom was engaged to a different girl.
Tom goes along with his friend Huckleberry Finn to the graveyard at night to try out a “cure” for warts. At the cemetery, they witness the murder of young Dr. Robinson byInjun Joe. Tom and Huck run away and swear a blood oath to not tell anyone what they have seen.
Injun Joe blames Muff Potter who was drunk at the time and truly believes he committed the murder.Tom gets himself back in Becky’s good books when he accepts the blame for a book that she has ripped. soon Muff Potter’s trial begins, and Tom, overcome by guilt, testifies against Injun Joe. Potter is not guilty, however, Injun Joe flees the room through a window.Summer arrives, and Tom and Huck go hunting for buried treasure in a haunted house and see Injun Joe enter the house disguised as a deaf and mute Spaniard. He and his companion, associate unkempt man, attempt to burysome stolen treasure of their own. after they see Tom and Huck’s tools, they become suspicious that somebody is sharing their spot andcarry the gold off rather than burying it.
Huck begins to shadow Injun Joe every night, awaiting a chance to nab the gold. Meanwhile, Tom goes on a picnic to McDougal’s Cave with Becky and their classmates.Tom and Becky get lost in the cave, and theirabsence isn’t discovered until the following morning.
the men of the town begin to look for them, however to no avail. Tom and Becky run out of food and candles and start to weaken. The horror of the case will increase once Tom, searching for how out of the cave, happens upon Injun Joe, who is using the cave as a hideaway.
Eventually, even as the searchers are giving up, Tom finds a way out. The town celebrates, and Becky’s father, decide Thatcher, locks up the cave. Injun Joe, trapped inside, starves to death undefined undefinedundefined undefined A week later, Tom takes Huck to the cave and they find the box of gold, the proceeds of which are invested for them. The Widow Douglas adopts Huck, and, when Huck attempts to escape civilized life, Tom promises him that if he returns to the widow, he can join Tom’s robber band. Reluctantly, Huck agrees.
The white washed fence. The fence demonstrates Tom’s ability to avoid responsibility and that he is a clever boy.Mark Twain used fence to demonstrate how clever Tom was.
This was shown through how Tom convinces ben that it would be a privilege to paint the fence so he wouldn’t have to paint it himself. The second symbol is the treasure shows Tom’s ambition for adventure.Tom is a mischievous and fun loving boy who is always looking for something fun to do and can get carried away in what he’s doing. Tom says”I don’t want any marks.
They always bury it treasure under a ha’nted house or on an island, or under a dead tree that’s got one limb sticking out. Well, we’ve tried Jackson’s Island a little, and we can try it again some time; and there’s the old ha’nted house up the Still-House branch, and there’s lots of deadlimb trees — dead loads of ’em.”(Twain 195).This quote shows how Tom gets carried away in the fun of treasure hunting and how focused he is on finding the treasure and keeping the fun going.
A theme is rebellion because everything tom does is what he wants to do and he doesnt reall care what authority says I would recomoned the book but it wouldnt be the greates class book because it uses the n word multiple times.
