2The American Nursing Association defines nursing as “the protection, promotion, and optimization of health and abilities, prevention of illness and injury, alleviation of suffering through the diagnosis and treatment of human response, and advocacy in the care of individuals, families, communities, and populations” (American Nurses Association website, 2015). I believe this encompasses the basis of nursing. Making sure our patients are clean and comfortable, taking the extra steps to help the feel despite any disease or illness. Nurses provide care to individuals from different backgrounds. Regardless of race, sex, or economic status, nursing commitment and responsibility remains the same.
The metaparadigm theories that define the practice of nursing are four concepts identified as person, health, nursing, and environment. Human caring as the moral ideal of nursing is the general focus of the practice. It involves concern and empathy to the client’s lived experiences. The ANA addresses need physically, psychologically and sociologically.
They adopt and elaborate on the theories.
